I got a bit of lazy over the days… felt a bit depressed. I mean as the initial Euphoria of the new place gradually weaned off.. i found it difficult pass the time, got bored, got frustated. My knitting group kept me a bit sane and ofcourse we travelled.
What i did mean while…
Visited Canberra – the capital state
Prayed at Helensburg – the hindu temple
Strolled around Cremone point
Walked from Bondi to Coogee beach… though the whole walk is fantastic, its kind of unexpected and didnt have a camera with me to capture some stunning views. Its good for me else we would have taken another hour for us to complete the walk
Lazied in Centennial Park
Made to some op shops in Marickville
Knitted for Charity and myself
P.S Will be more regular with my December stuff

We have a electric oven in the kitchen but it is not until a week back that i figured how to switch it on. Even i was not sure of how to operate the oven as the one we had back in chennai is a mix of micro+grill+convection. I watched my MIL bake cake a few times back in Chennai but i never did it on my own.
I got this cake tin in vinnies-chatswood for 3$ and also some baking powder and baking soda when returning from the knitting group last week.
I though of banana bread first but realised that the last banana in the house was already consumed and started searching over the net for some simple recepie for a plain cake.
As is my knitting.. so is my baking. I dont check the gauge and i dont measure the stuff. I dont follow the pattern to the point and same is with the recepie.
I made with only 1 cup of flour and i mixed both plain flour and whole wheat flour. But finally mixed in some butter, egg, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and water in a bowl.
I poured the batter into the floured cake pan and kept it into a pre heated oven at 150c for 30 mins…. too nervous…. i just didnt want it to turn into a biscuit like thing. I switched off the oven when the cake passed the fork test, but i felt later that it must have been for another 10 mins for a brown crust on top.
Hubster was a bit surprised and had some two slices… i emptied the rest…

There were no trains this weekend in the north shore line as there was some track work…
We made it to Wynyard and then to Alexandria by bus… I was the navigator with the street map book telling DH where exactly to get down…
DH got me a pair of shoes but they were a size small and we went there to exchange… they are a couple of factory outlets along the road and i even picked up a jacket.

There are lots of books and records. Also lot of bric and brac, The furniture is in the basement, if you like some antique stuff.
There are lot of straight knitting needles and some cross stitch kits and loads of vintage vouge sewing patterns if you are interested.
There isnt much yarn for me but found a cake tin to start my baking adventures

we got an award from the north shore times.
I took some photos just to give you an idea of the group. I also found that only two ladies in the whole group knit the german way and they are a lot eager to teach me…. Actually they are originally from Iran, that might be a reason for their continental knitting

I wanted to hit the op shops just before they close ( 4-5pm) so that i wont spend much time and wont be tempted much. The Vinnies in Crows Nest is in Alexander st which is off the Falcon st. I reached there after a good 15 min walk from my home.
The front section has clothes.. the right wing has some curtains, scarves… toys (there was a knitted toy… but i wasnt interested) then in the bac there were some glassware, bric-brac, books, bags. The back room has some electrical stuff and some furniture.
There in the corner i saw some yarn. Its some 350 grams of acrylic yarn in white color by Lincraft. Another box with some unfinished project. It has 8 X 50g balls of dark grey green yarn and half done sweater back. The yarn is a combination of acrylic, mohair and rayon.. but is 2$ per ball and i wasnt interested.

Today its Vinnies time… The Artarmon Vinnes is very near to the train station on Hampden road. Once your are out of the station, go towards your left and Vinnies is just before the Post office.
As usual there are clothes, hand bags, shoes, books, some crafty stuff ( sewing n knitting) some knitting magzines only for a dollar each (very 80’s books with lots of sweaters and pullovers).
I bought a pillow cover with some bright print for 50 cents.. thinking it will be useful for lining some bag or something. Again no yarn….

I have been reading about Op Shops ( Opportunity Shops)/ Charity Shops / Thrift Stores in almost all Australian blogs. The stores normally get almost good and unused goods that are donated and they sell them back to the community. All the proceeds go to charity. Vinnies, Salvos are some names. I think the idea from the UK. I sometimes think why India didn’t aquire all the good stuff from the English instead.
After i googled and found that there are some nearby… i wanted to see what the fuss is all about.
Chatswood Salvos is my first op shop. Its a small but nice store which i think is airconditioned. The front hall has some clothes, shoes, bric-brac, a bit of jewellery, some craft items and trial rooms. The second room has lots of books neatly sorted out, Glass ware, some furniture along with some toys. I bought 2 knitting books for 8 dollars. There are lot of knitting patterns, sewing patterns, some sewing stuff, buttons, knitting needles but no yarn.
